"It is actually cheaper than rent!"

Adam Copeland & Rebecca Hardy

When they decided to set up home together Adam Copeland and Rebecca Hardy from East Leeds began looking at rental properties closer to Rebecca’s workplace near Horsforth.

But thanks to the government backed Help to Buy incentive offered at Redrow's Horsforth Vale development, they were delighted to discover they could actually afford to get onto the property ladder and buy.

“It's fantastic,” said community nurse Rebecca, 23. “In fact, not only could we afford to buy our own home – it actually works out cheaper than renting and, of course, we have got something to show at the end of it.”

Rebecca and Adam, a 24-year-old agricultural fencer, had both been living at home with their parents but, after being together for two years, the couple decided they wanted a place of their own.

They looked at renting but found out that it would cost around £700 a month for what they were looking for. “And Adam didn't really want to rent,” said Rebecca. “He had saved quite a bit of money for a deposit before we met and so, after seeing an advert on Facebook, we decided to go and look at Redrow's Horsforth Vale development.

“The fact that it is cheaper to buy is a bonus but it makes so much more sense. To me, renting is just dead money, but I think a lot of people rent simply because they don't have the finance to start off with. We were fortunate that Adam had savings and, with the Help to Buy scheme we only needed to pay a deposit of 5%. And we loved the Abode properties.”

Abode by Redrow is a trendsetting new collection of homes with an ‘uncluttered’ but smart fa├žade, along with a host of in-vogue features inside the chic boutique-style designs.

The two and three-bedroom homes boast wide open living spaces – virtually all of the ground floor is open plan – and include features such as wet rooms and underfloor heating.

All of the homes can be purchased using the Government’s Help to Buy scheme, which can reduce the initial purchase price by 20% as well as enabling the buyer to put down as little as 5% deposit.

“Being able to buy means that we have a home of our own and we can put our own stamp on it,” added Rebecca.

“We have bought a two-bedroom property which is a perfect size for just the two of us, and we love the high specification of the Abode homes, especially the underfloor heating downstairs, which will be lovely and cosy in winter, and all the integrated appliances in the kitchen. Everything was there so we could just move in, so it's ideal for first time buyers like us.”

Rebecca and Adam were full of praise too for the Redrow sales team who have, they said, supported them throughout the whole process: “There was one point when we had a few issues with the mortgage and thought we might have to cancel but James in the sales office was fantastic, he didn't push us or pressure us, but just advised and helped us.”

Horsforth Vale is about six miles from Leeds city centre with excellent transport links. There’s a good choice of shops, bars and restaurants in Horsforth and the area has lots of popular societies and clubs enabling homeowners to play a part in the local community.

Current prices for an Abode home here start from £296,950.

The new Abode show homes and sales hub on Low Hall Road are open Thursday to Monday inclusive from 10am until 5.30pm.
