In Focus: Darlington

April 2016

We’re starting our In Focus series this month.

April brings you Darlington. With a population of 106,000, it’s one of the largest towns in the North East.

Like any large town, Darlington possesses an array of local amenities with high street chain stores, restaurants and schools making it a perfect place for families and first-time buyers alike.

Famous for it's markets, an open market is held twice a week in the town centre, with livestock and craft markets also held throughout the year. It's Christmas market is not to be missed with gifts, food and entertainment on offer for all.

Darlington also prides itself on its local attractions and museums, in particular the historic Darlington Civic Theatre where despite it's small scale, still manages to draw the biggest names in theatre and music.

With plans to redevelop the town, a new leisure complex in the heart of Darlington is being built with the hope it will open to the public in Spring 2016. The Feethams Leisure Complex will boast a nine screen multiplex cinema, 80 room hotel as well as a host of well-known restaurants and cafes.

There's also plenty to do away from the town centre, with plenty of suburbs and villages offering parks and nature reserves for you to enjoy at your leisure.

The fantastic railway links also mean travelling to the North's biggest cities are under an hour away. Located on the East Coast line, Newcastle is only 30 minutes away, whilst Leeds, York and Edinburgh are easily accessible if you fancy a day out. You’ll also find the Durham Tees Valley Airport five miles outside of Darlington town centre, making travel to the continent easier than ever.

Given the popularity of the town, it's no wonder that it's becoming a hotspot for Help to Buy.

With the Help to Buy scheme offering buyers a five-year, interest free, 20% Equity Loan on the value of a property and only a 5% deposit and Shared Ownership is becoming more and more popular, there’s never been a better time to make the move.
